She was in the ICU at St Joseph's Mercy Medical Center in Hot Springs, AR with intestinal bleeding but is now in a room. So far they haven't found the cause. This a new one in a long list of bad medical things that have happened to her. She's a tough lady, but she needs all your prayers for a solution to this one and a quick recovery so that nothing else goes wrong in her 88th year. [01/14/2010] |

REQUEST: Harrell Batte (one of Hillman's childhood friends from Baton Rouge) and his wife Beverly of Deer Park, TX, lost his daughter to a neighborhood dispute which became a shooting just before Christmas in Houston.
You may have seen the article in the papers. A neighbor woman shot and killed Laura Hinson, wounded Laura's husband Tommy, and also her own husband with a shotgun in a dispute over some slashed tires. Laura had 4 children none of whom were home at the time of the shooting, thank the Lord. I know Emma, the oldest one. A very cute 12 year old freckled face redhead who sang in the school musical this year. She has three much younger half siblings who are staying with their paternal grandparents. Emma is living with her father but misses her mom very much. Pray for these children, for Laura's parents, and for her husband that they can get through this tragedy. Pray for the fact that rage over everyday business has been so violently resolved so many times in the recent history of our country and that people can seem to control their tempers without resorting to shooting people over what is essentially just stuff. Harrell tells himself that Laura died quickly and did not suffer long and that she was saved and went to heaven, but it is most difficult to assimilate the loss of a child at any age. He and Beverly are very active in their Baptist church but our prayers in support may help ease their loss too. [01/14/2010] |

REQUEST: Please pray for my friend Jan Witcher in Bakersfield, CA.
She has a subependymoma (almost always benign, slow growing tumor) in her spine in the neck/shoulders area. They are still weighing medical opinions and options for treatment. Pray that they find the right ones and that she can beat this without complete loss of quality of life. It is already affecting feet and arm function and causing heart problems and is complicated by severe arthritis in her neck joints. She has a great attitude and prayer support at home but I know she's scared that everything is changed for good for her and her family and for her own survival which is about 50/50 even with successful treatment. Her children are friends of my children and she has two really cute grandboys. [01/14/2010] |

You may remember that A.J. is my cousin (lives in West Monroe) who had the lawn mower turn over on him in 2009 (he is in a wheel chair). During Christmas, an MRI showed the return of a brain tumor that A.J. had removed several years ago. That family is now searching for a suitable treatment/prognosis for this additional, new condition. [01/08/2010] |
